Today each of you briefly introduced yourselves to the class. Now I
would like you to tell us some more about yourself in writing.
Here are some questions to consider:
Where
are you in life (meaning, what stage)? Did you finish high
school? College? Graduate school? Talk about your background,
and your professional and personal aspirations. Also, discuss your
interests, hobbies, and talents. Tell us something about yourself
that makes you unique. Feel free to add anything else that you would
like to share about yourself with the class.
You should post your writing as a comment to this post. Just click on comment.
In life, it is such an interesting thing that we can make friends with the others around and enlarge our relationships; especially to those who are international students like me. Thus, I will release some more about myself to get closer to you, my classmates.
ReplyDeleteTo begin with, I would like to introduce my background. My name is Dung and it also means "brave" in English. Then, I am from Vietnam (V.N), a small country in The Southeast Asia. I have a small family with 3 members and I am the only child. In addition, I already graduated from HUFLIT University in V.N 2 years ago but I felt unsatisfied with that. So, I chose to study abroad in The United States (U.S.) with a desire to be better and become a pharmacist in future.
Next, my interests, hobbies, and talents are what I want to share. As a young man and student, I always want to have a supple body with the better health. Therefore, Vovinam ( a type of Vietnamese traditional martial arts ) is my ideal choice. It usually takes me 30-40 minutes to practice in the morning. Besides that, I also enjoy reading books; especially the scary fictions. In addition, playing guitar is also my favorite in my spare time. It helps me relax and entertain my mind after class and work.
Another thing I want to present is my personality. I am friendly. Thus, I want to make friends with many people from all over the world. Perhaps, I am interested in "collecting" the international friends so that I could widen my knowledge about the different cultures and traditions in the world. Hence, the more friends we have, the more we can develop and learn to each other.
To sum up, it is a fantastic experience to study in L.C.C ( The Language and Culture Center ) in the University of Houston (U.H) and befriend with lots of people there. I already shared something about myself. How about you, my classmates?
Thank you, Dung, for this wonderful introduction. I'd like to say that you're BRAVE for going first!
DeleteThe LCC is the best place to "collect" international friends, so I'm glad that you're journey has landed you here :D
My name is Zhara Fuenmayor, I am eighteen years old and I come from Venezuela; located in North of South America. I used to live in a small town named Puerto Ordaz, which is famous because it was the only city planned in my country. I have a big family, my dad married before meeting my mom and from that marriage I have two half-brothers, Eduardo and Alejando, and once half-sister, Marianella; then he met my mom and they had two daughters: Zhandra and Zhara. Moreover, I graduated last July from High School and I was planning to study Medicine in my country. However, big problems and bad situations with the government made that my University never started; therefore, in March of this year my dad and I took the decision of studying English and a new career at the United States, Biomedical Engineering. We chose Houston because I have family here, who I am living with, but also because it has the biggest Medical Center in the World, which could help me with my career. I arrived to USA on May 9 and stated summer term in level 4 with Katey and Vincent; they are brilliant teachers.
ReplyDeleteIn my personality, I like to spend time with people: friends and family, and making new friends is a challenge I like to take. Also, I come from a Catholic school so I like volunteering; I use to do it in my country: sharing time in Hospitals with sick kids, going to Indian College where we teach them to speak Spanish and many others activities.
If we talk about my interests and hobbies I can tell you that I am a sport girl. I used to play tennis since I was a little kid but four years ago I gave up. Nevertheless, I always keep exercising and started to do spinning until I achieved the certification and began to give classes. Furthermore, I love dancing too so I took bellydancing classes since I was in middle school.
Finally, I am going to be in Houston for a long time so if you need something that I can help you with just let me know. I am really excited about this life change; otherwise, sometimes adapting to a new culture and language can be hard but not impossible.
I hope you guys enjoy this experience as well as I am doing.
First of all, if you really want to study medicine to be a doctor, we do have medical schools here in this country ;) It might take a little longer than it would in Venezuela, but if that's your dream, you should pursue it.
DeleteI like that you love volunteering. Last semester we gave out a list of places for students interested in volunteering. I will look for it and give it out to all of you. Volunteering is great to do because it's something great to do, but it's also a good way for you to meet people here and practice English.
I like your very positive attitude. I hope that it's contagious :D
Regarding spinning and belly dancing, perhaps you can give your classmates (and teachers) a lesson!

It is a beach city with a long coast, the atmosphere is awesome, people are friendly. Hoping one day you guys can visit to my hometown.
ReplyDeleteI have an older sister and a younger brother. My sister also stays far away from home, so there is only my parents and my brother live together. I grew up in a small town. It is called Nakornpathom where is located in a center of the country. My hometown is also located next to Bangkok. It takes about 40 minutes driving. It is a small town but it is quite crowded. There is the biggest pagoda in the world in this town. Although it is Thailand's province but there are full of Chinese-blood live here, including my family. I had lived there since I was born until I graduated high school. After that I moved to Bangkok to go to the university and had stayed there for four years until I graduated the bachelor degree in geo-resource engineer. I wanted to continue my education so I decided to come to the United States. That is the reason why I am here.
ReplyDeleteWhen I have free time, I would like to spend time with myself such as laying down on a couch and relax, listening to music, or surfing the internet. I enjoy playing guitar even though not very well. I like to watch and play sports.
I am an introvert; moreover, I am not a talkative so my introduction is a little bit short. Nevertheless, it covers all about of me.
I hope you have a wonderful experience here in the US. I look forward to getting to know you.
DeleteYooooooo! My name is Jianzuo, I'm really excited to study in class 5C with y'all guys. For me, LCC is not only a program to study English, it's more like a chance to make friends and learn many different cultures. The more I study about your cultures, the easier for me to get along with you. It's extremely a valuable and interesting challenge. I'm Chinese, and my hometown is a small city called Yingkou in the southeast of China. My parents didn't bring me any brothers or sisters, so I'm the only boy in my family, and also I'm a single boy lololololololol. In order to become more familiar with everyone, I'll further introduce myself.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I'm going to introduce my experience, I had studied in an university in China for one year, and my major is Environmental Art Design. But the approach to education of Chinese university is not for me, so I gave it up and came here for a better education. I'm going to pick Petroleum Engineering as my major and study at least 6 years here to get undergraduate and master degree.
As my personality, I'm really active!!!! The most time you see me, I'm full of energy. I have the infinite passion of life, and that's the reason why I'm happy everyday! You will find that I'm funny.
My interests, lolololol, I'm interested in everything catch me. As I said, I'm really active, especially reflected in my interests. I love poppin( a kind of street dance by shaking your muscles and rolling your body) I love painting, I love riding(I have a fixed gear!!!), I love skiing( but there is no snow in Houston lol) And I really really really love cat !!!!!!!!!
I hope y'all don't be SHY!!!! Let's just have fun!!! Of course first of all, we have to do well in our class, but regard it as an interesting game, life will be more colorful.
I like what you wrote about "the infinite passion of life." You sound interesting and FUN--what a great combination! I hope we get to see some of your poppin' moves!
DeleteHi, everyone, my name is Valeria Cristina, if it makes you difficult to say, you can call me “Valerie”. I’m a twenty-three years old Venezuelan woman but I feel like forty because sometimes I can be pretty serious and seem extremely righteous and honest -fortunately I’m still young-. On the other hand, I can be an excessively perky and funny person.
ReplyDeleteI’m Clinical Psychologist since 2012, I have worked with children and teenagers in some hospitals and schools in Venezuela for the last two years. That has been one of my biggest experiences that I’ve ever had because I’ve always loved to share with them all my thoughts and learning; at the same time, I’ve liked to enjoy their world , how they think, feel, and see themselves; also, every single thing around them.
I've been in Houston for nine months studying in LCC. After finishing this program, I hope to be accepted in a Master’s degree in any university of Houston; if I get through the Master’s degree in Psychology as soon as I hope, I would like to get a job in a Hospital or School in U.S.A. or another country. Furthermore, I hope to get a long experience that helps me to be success in life.
Regarding to my hobbies, I am inclined toward art, I love reading books, drawing when I feel inspired, visiting some museums, watching any performance about romance, literature and real life also, watching ballet performances because I’ve always wanted to be a professional dancer. Moreover, I like to share my time with my friends and family, make jokes and cheer them up, dancing, running, cooking and singing any musical style.
Finally, I hope to share and help you with everything you need. I love to know about diverse cultures and thoughts. Feel free to ask me every question or doubt that you have
Wow. You sound like a VERY INTERESTING PERSON! I look forward to getting to know you more during this term (and beyond).

ReplyDeleteMy name is Fofana El Hadj Siriki, I am from Ivory Coast. I has been leaving in Houston since January 2014. Before coming in USA, I had already graduated from high school. I am actually looking forward to attending the University of Houston for the pursue of my education. Here is a little description of my education.
My family is composed of six members who are father, mother, one older brother, two little sisters, and I. They are all living in my hometown actually, except I who is in the USA. I live on campus, precisely in cambridge oaks. I am an external person, I like to share my feelings with other people. I am also some kind of crazy since I like joking, teasing people, and seeing a shining smile on the face of everyone surrounding me.
Since I am an external person, I like hanging out with friends, and practicing sports as hobbies. The kind of sports that I like are soccer, football, and Taekwondo which is like a profession for me. I have a second black belt in that sport which I has been practicing since I was seven years old, I have also been a member of the national team of Taekwondo in my country for two years. I was looking forward to keeping doing it, but unfortunately there is no club of Taekwondo in the U of H gym.
This is a brief introduction about me..
Thanks for all of the information.
DeleteI'm surprised that there's no Taekwondo on campus. Perhaps you can learn another form of martial arts while you're here. Anyhow, I'll make sure not to get into a fight with you ;)
You are an EXTROVERTED person (not an external person).

Hi everyone, my name is musaed and you can call me by my name. I'm undergraduate student. I've been in Houston for almost 2 years and I like it in here . As a student thinking about getting to University is something really necessary for our future. What makes me crazy is that universities in general ask for SAT or ACT tests. The ACT test has 6 different subjects Reading ,writing ,math ,biology, chemistry and physics. The thing is I graduated from high school three years ago , so I got nothing left except English, which is totally different from the one in the test . I'm trying to do my best to pass this test .Thank you and it's a pleasure to meet you all.
